Power reduction of AMD 9950 quad core desktop



is a project goal.

The Lenovo G580 core i3 uses about 11 W idle under Windows 8.

XP idle power consumption is about 15-16 before Lenovo power management added.

Reduction to about 12-14 W achieved by adding power management driver on Sunday February 24, 2013.

66944 unlikely to be used in CR-V for reason the alternator can be destroyed if too much power is drawn from the power socket. Disruptive and expensive.

Solar cells are neat things. Unfortunately, they are not very smart. Neither are batteries - in fact batteries are downright stupid. Most P V panels are built to put out a nominal 12 volts. The catch is "nominal". In actual fact, almost all "12 volt" solar panels are designed to put out from 16 to 18 volts. The problem is that a nominal 12 volt battery is pretty close to an actual 12 volts - 10.5 to 12.7 volts, depending on state of charge. Under charge, most batteries want from around 13.2 to 14.4 volts to fully charge - quite a bit different than what most panels are designed to put out.

Do I always need a charge controller?

Can a solar panel or panels be used to charge a battery and simultaneously used as input to the 66944?

Probably answer is 'yes' because an alternator outputs about 14.2 V.

But let's do some checking.

Intel has closed the power-envelope gap between its Core and Atom products by introducing a 7W version of the Ivy Bridge [Lenovo Z50 is an Ivy bridge core i 5 laptop. But the lower power-dissipation number comes with a caveat: to reach this level, Intel unveiled a new power figure called scenario design power (SDP). Using SDP limits, specially screened Ivy Bridge processors can reach 7W—close to Atom's power numbers. Compared with standard ultra-low-voltage (ULV) Core chips that have a 17W TDP, the new Y-series fits into thinner tablets as well as detachable tablets and convertible laptops. The new products are available immediately.

The new Y-series Core processors use dual cores to address a range of price and performance points. They range from the Pentium 2129Y running at 1.1GHz and implementing two threads ($150) to the Core i7-3689Y running at a base clock speed of 1.5GHz—up to 2.6GHz using Turbo Boost with one core active—and implementing four threads ($362). Compared with the standard ULV Core processors (which have the suffix U), the Y-series counterparts lose 400–600MHz in base clock speed and increase cost by 5–11%. For example, the 2.1GHz i7-3687U lists for $346, but the 1.5GHz i7-3689Y lists for $362.

Fuji A600 digital camera powered by Ray O Vac NiMH batteries lasted for 12 photos, then died in the middle of the download of these photots.

Canon SX160 IS apparently is a power-efficient design compared to the A600.

The A600 is six years older than the SX160 IS.
