Is it safe to plug computers, especially laptops or notebooks, into modified sine inverters?

Just one important thing to keep in mind with the Kill A Watt meter. DO NOT use it on modified sine inverters. The power supply is of the capacitor/zeener diode type and the sharp corners of the modified sine wave will cause the capacitor to "pass" way too much current for the rest of the circut to handle, so will soon burn out. It will probably be OK for about a minute, if you want to do a quick check of some appliance, but any longer and you're asking for a puff of stinky smoke.

The burnout issue with modified sine wave inverters has supposedly been fixed, according to the manufacturer.

[Harbor Freight Digital Electricity Usage Tester Chicago Electric - item#65731
is seen plugged into inverter.

Appears to work fine. And surely contains a microcontroller.

Duration of operation is yet unknown, however.

Backup usage tester purchase might be a good idea since they are on clearance?]

What does the output of Harbor Freight modified sine inverters66914 and 66814 look like?

How about large-scale solar electric inverters? Or microinverters?

Let's find out. :)

Modified Sine Wave Power INVERTER.

Warning about computers appears to contradict 66814 applications?

Investigation warranted.

I use this inverter to run my laptop and phone (as a wifi hotspot) while on long road trips. I am in fact writing this review while riding passenger on a long trip. I have only have positive results from this product. I watch podcasts of my college lectures while traveling and it works perfectly. I would recommend this for anyone who travels and needs to run their laptop. [80W]

Used inverter while on vacation to charge computers, kids video games, run DVD player and other things it never gave any trouble and it ran almost none stop for twelve days . [200W]
