Why 'Canon Digital Camera' is seen but no driver?

Maybe it was loaded from the 'Digital Camera Solutions Disk' and not removed in the unistall?

Dear Bill Payne:

We appreciate your continued correspondence regarding your PowerShot SX160 IS. We are sorry to hear you are unable to download images from your camera to the computer due to the driver Error 28.

From what you described it appears you are experiencing a connectivity issue. Camerawindow is only used to download images from the camera to the computer. Camerawindow doesn't affect the driver. Please disconnect any other devices from your computer such as printers, other cameras, or webcams. Only leave the mouse and keyboard connected. While troubleshooting the issue we can hopefully identify and resolve the issue within the next couple of emails. When a computer is not correctly responding to the connection made from a camera, the first thing to check is the Device Manager to see the current status of the connection.

1. Ensuring the camera is in the playback mode, connect the camera to the computer and press the playback button.

2. Cancel or close any windows or messages that appear, unless you receive the Canon Camera Window don't close it, this is the program you need to download the images from the camera. If you receive the Camera Window try to download the images. If you don't get the Camera Window program please continue with the steps below. Any other programs that aren't related to the camera you can close.

3. From your desktop, right click on the My Computer icon.

4. Select Properties.

5. In the System Properties window, click on Hardware.

6. Click on Device Manager.

7. Look for the camera or an Unknown Device under Imaging Devices, Other Devices, or Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

8. Does the camera or an Unknown Device appear, and if so, does it have a "?" or "!" displayed with its description? If so, right click on the camera and left click on UNINSTALL.

9. Close out the device manager.

10. Turn the camera off, disconnect and reconnect again ensuring the camera is OFF. Then press the playback button. (The blue arrow in the blue box). Does the computer locate a driver?

We look forward to your reply with the information we have requested regarding your PowerShot SX160 IS.

Sincerely,

Ronald
